The Historic City Of Lincoln












Lincoln is one of England's most beautiful cathedral cities.

With over 2000 years of history Lincoln has much to delight the visitor.

Lincoln Cathedral towers majestically over the city and is a must for any visitor. Building was started in 1072 but most of the original church was destroyed in the 12th century by fire and earthquake. Most of the present Gothic Cathedral is from the 13th and 14th century but part of the original building still exists at the west front. .

Newport arch is the 3rd century northern gateway to the roman city and the oldest roman archway in the country which spans a road still used by traffic. 1234567890***************


 
 

The Norman castle which Dates from 1068 is built on the grounds of the roman fortress and has been extensively renovated. In the castle grounds is the Victorian prison which includes the only remaining Victorian prison chapel in the country. Magna Carta dating from 1215, together with interpretive displays is housed in the castle and on show
